The Story of
i am woman
Carlyn Hudson Choreography and myself set out to produce an evening of dancing the highlighted women of the Pacific Northwest. And because I am director of Portland Dance Film Fest it only seemed right to include dance film to highlight as many artist as we could. WCPNW showcased 5 choreographers and 5 dance films by women choreographers. Both Hudson and I created our own pieces to be showcased. I took advantage of our partnership with Dance Barn, a dance space residency in Mosier, OR and conceptualized i am woman.
It stemmed from the many cycles that women face: menstrual, infertility, abuse, the patriarchy, and more. We face these cycles of trauma and come through changed.
I shot the entire film in a weekend, edited it in a week, and had Duke Stebbins create an original score in the next. It soft premiered an uncolored version at the 2024 Women Choreographers of the Pacific Northwest!
